Bayou Accents GIVEAWAY!

I'm not sure why, but it took me forever to catch on to the elastic ribbon hair tie trend! But as soon as I saw one on Sarah's wrist, I was completely convinced that I needed to check these babies out.

This is where Bayou Accents comes into the picture. I was very pleased when I discovered this Etsy shop because of the adorable prints and colors available along with their affordable prices!

These are just a few of the colors and patterns offered!

Seriously- they're as cute as they are functional! And I don't know about you, but I always have a hair tie on my wrist.
Why not make it fashionable?

I was SO excited when my hair tie set came in the mail lets be honest, its because of the camo and I'm thrilled that Bayou Accents is offering one of my loverly readers (thats you!) a set of your choice!

Ok, so maybe I'm jumping on the Army boyfriend bandwagon a little bit by being obsessed with camo right now, but I also like to make it a game by dressing it up as much as I can. What do you think about my little "wrist party" combo?

Happy Friday everyone! Have a blessed and safe Labor Day weekend with your families and friends!

List and Stuff

Warning: "selfies" included. Sorry guys.

I have nothing planned but I have LOTS of thoughts and a few photos to share, so here we go!
_________________________________

1) Dr. Arnone (my flute professor) got a random free copy of Marie Claire in the mail this month and passed it on to Darbi who in turn passed it on to me. WOO! I never buy magazines. Ever. Because I'm broke, yaaaaaay. So I spend a little of my free time (HAHA....whats that?!) browsing because I like photos of pretty clothes and hair and stuff.

GUESS WHAT I READ?!

"Frizzy" curls are in.

Thats right ladies, you heard me! Its summer, and Marie Claire *July 2013 says that its ok for you to rock those curls in the Texas 100 degree humidity. Alllllll riiiiiight. (Disclaimer: the hair gets bigger as the day goes on, am I right?!)

2) Camp.

These are the stipulations: Gotta look older than the little munchins (the struggle is real, y'all), its 100 degrees in TX, want to look semi-professional, and hours are 7am-6pm.

Enter "camp chic"- yep, I made a name for how I try to dress at camp. DORKY.

Too small to read, but the nametag reads "Ms. Brown." Yep.
3) Sangria.

I learned how to make it!

Or rather, I sort of made up an easy recipe based on something I had heard.
My dear dear friend Ainsley (who might be making a debut in the blogging world sometime in the near future...) came to visit and Sangria was made with our friend Mark.

Easy and delicious! I don't even feel like I should share the recipe because its embarrassingly simple....

Pretty AND delicious!

I definitely had more bullet points planned, but Kula is being a little chatter box and clearly needs attention "RIGHT MEOW, temp mom!"

Adios friends! Until next time....whenever that ends up being!  :)

Oh de happies and de crappies

Not sure where that weird accent came from....maybe its because I went out with mah frans tonight. (because I'm definitely writing this post on Thursday night, not Friday. Is that cheating?!)
And it was fun.

Or maybe its because Drew and I talk to each other in weirdo nerd voices all the time...

Whatever.

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Time for that beautiful glittery button link-up with Stephanie and Sarah BECAAAAAUSE........

Get out of my head, Rebecca.

crappies

Drew was in Dallas A LOT. AGAIN.

I had to do homework?! Ew.

I overslept twice.

Had this terrifying realization that including spring break and the Wind Ensemble tour, I only have two weeks to prepare for my graduate recital. NOT READY!! Not even close.

Had to write my first "I'm disappointed in you" email to a few of my students. Bummer.

happies

Drew finally got sworn into the Army!! YAY!!! Super congrats to my man, and prayers for us as we will be starting a LDR (long distance relationship) at the end of May!

Successfully trimmed (a whole inch!) off of my bangs by myself! I was sure I'd end up having to shave my head like a much less dignified Natalie Portman.

Also successfully (ok, credit goes to my roommates Abby and Christina) dyed my hair a few shades darker, so basically I'm a new woman! See photo here

Baylor Jazz Band concert on Tuesday- played my all time favorite, Pretty Road by Mariah Schneider.
You should take the time to listen to this, I promise your life will be changed!! And you can leave me nasty comments if you hate it.....but you won't.

Chatted with my Texas Music Festival soulmate, Emily. She's the bomb. Super talented flutist, super funny, super down to earth. I kind of love her....and gosh darn it, I miss her! Hoping to see her before I head to England in the fall!

Cheesin' with Emily, sportin' the "concert black" 2011

Went to Chuy's (OK, so I go to Chuy's every week- so shoot me) with some music grad friends of mine.
Saw Sarah there, totally unplanned- LOL, we like our margaritas, ok??

Strawberry, Mango swirl,  and Prickly Pear margs (not all mine-promise!)

Beautiful flute ladies- Catherine and Alison

Freakin adorable Darbs and our brave man, John

And finally, I FINALLY convinced Darbi to start a blog. Not only is she freakin adorable, but shes freakin hilarious and you will absolutely not regret heading on over to her blog- Table for One.
(Seriously guys, I've pretty much peed from reading every one of her posts.)

Now I command you, go forth and have a rockin' weekend.

A Day in the Life...

I bet you have ALL wondered at some point what its like to be me...
(Ok, who am I kidding- pretty sure no one has ever thought that)

But ANYWHO, I thought I'd take a little "This and That Thursday" and turn it into a rambling account of what a normal Paige the Baylor Graduate/Teaching Assistant Music Masters Student day looks like.
(Hows that for a mouthful...)

5:50am: *ALARM* (warning sleepy bear, you have to get up soon!)

6:00am: *ALARM* Ok, seriously get up now.

6:10am: Alright grumpy bear, if you aren't in the shower now, you're probably going to be late.

7:05am: *Shoves food into face while driving*
Yep, you're a little bit late. I told you to get out of bed ten minutes earlier!
Time for flute warm-ups an coffee at the McCrary Music Building- this is our second home!
(flute warm ups consists of stretching, long tones, and "technique" exercises on the flute)

7:50am: Hurry upstairs and get the camera. Time to get your TA on and record that freakin adorable
             conducting class of yours!
Ok, so I'm not actually the teacher, but the conducting class conducts (duh) and I record them so
they can go back and watch themselves to see how they can make improvements!
In the music world, audio and video recordings really are the best way to be your own teacher.
(I also grade everything that they turn in- muahahaha)

9:30am: Hurry (again) your butt over to the other freakin' side of campus to get to your History of 20th
Century Music Seminar. Hope you read your billion pages of homework so you don't make an idiot
of yourself since this class is pretty much all discussion!
(Wait-what? We have classes to go to?! Seriously...)

11:00am: Now book it all the way back McCrary (you only have ten minutes- granny walk!!) because you
have to be composed and prepared to coach your woodwind quintet. No, they probably didn't
practice as much as you want them to, and yes you're going to make a fool of yourself because
your excitement for the subject overpowers all five of them combined! But they're adorable, so
               we'll give them that.

(Stop and take practice room #selfie to admire new hair-do/daydream about lunch)

12:15pm: AND BREAK! WHEW- JK, you have a bunch of other crap to do.

Right now you should probably be planning the Wind Ensemble tour, practicing for your graduate
recital, reading (theres always more reading to do), practicing, writing your paper, practicing,
               catching up on emails, practicing....

So, relax up! (HAH) Make your boyfriend take a cutie pic with you, and don't forget to eat lunch
               before....

2:00pm: Flute lesson with FA

3:30pm: Either woodwind hour (weekly recital that all students are required to play on during the semester)
or Flute Studio - depending on the day. Also- most likely daydreaming about what you're going to
eat for dinner and/or what you're wearing tomorrow.

Baylor Flute Studio- flute choir

5:00pm: You probably have to teach a lesson to one of those adorable kiddos. Its time consuming, but
remember you love doing this. Some of the best hours of the week! :)

6:00pm: Possible freedom! Its finally time to kick back and.....cook dinner, freak out about everything that
has to be accomplished by the next day, squeeze in office hours, and COLLAPSE.

7:30pm: Oops, you almost forgot! There's most likely a concert that you will get in trouble for not going
to....errrrrr support your fellow musicians!!! (Its always fun once you get there, promise!)

9:00pm: You did it!
Well, honestly you probably didn't. Like that research paper outline/opening paragraph over the
history of whatever flutey topic you decided to pick...yeah its due tomorrow. Best get writing!

And that's just Tuesday or Thursday's schedule...

Happy Thursday! Now you know what I'll be doing.....

H54F part 1

Linking up for High Five For Friday!

1.

I love Pinterest, y'all. But how often do we (I) actually accomplish the DYI or meal projects that we pin?

Yesterday, Thanks to a post by Looks Like Homemade, my freezer is now stocked with 7 pre-made yummy meals (for 2 with leftovers)! After two hours of prep time, all of these meals are completely ready to go- crock pot, go to school, done! It makes me giddy just thinking about it.

I did make some modifications to the recipies presented (and left out the soy chicken since my main man is not a fan of soy sauce, sad day right?!) so if you are interested I can post a follow up on how the recipies turned out!

2.

This happened. Coolest dad ever, right? :)

3.

Learned that I CAN trim my own bangs without just ruining my whole life.

Also, I love my Cover Girl NatureLuxe balm.

4.

Date night at one of our local favorites- Sams on the Square, or affectionately "Tacos and Tequila"

But seriously, white queso and black bean dip with a delicious margarita?! YUM.

Hope you all had a lovely week! Its about to be back to the grind- are you ready?
